COMPASS licence renewal
Your COMPASS licence covers the composition and performing rights in any music you play — live, recorded, or via radio and TV — to the public.
Your COMPASS licence covers the composition and performing rights in any music you play — live, recorded, or via radio and TV — to the public. It runs for a 12-month licence year and needs to be renewed before that year ends, with an application window of at least 5 working days ahead of the renewal.
Playing music without a valid licence is copyright infringement and exposes you to a claim from COMPASS or the rights holders it represents, independent of any other licensing you hold.
Who this is for
Any venue playing live or recorded music, or broadcasting music via radio or TV, to the public.
What you’ll hold
- Renewed COMPASS licence certificate
Watch out for
- Leaving renewal until after the licence year has already lapsed, since the 5-working-day lead time is easy to overlook.
- Assuming COMPASS covers all the music rights you need — it only covers composition and performing rights; sound-recording rights need a separate MRSS licence (see sg-mrss-renewal).
- Under-declaring seating capacity to reduce the fee, when accurate seating is a term of the licence.
