Work pass renewal
Work Permits and S Passes are issued for a fixed term and have to be renewed before they expire, through MOM's WPOL (Work Permit) or EP Online (S Pass) systems.
Work Permits and S Passes are issued for a fixed term and have to be renewed before they expire, through MOM's WPOL (Work Permit) or EP Online (S Pass) systems. Each pass is renewed individually, so a mix of expiry dates across your team needs its own tracking rather than a single annual date.
A pass that lapses means the holder is no longer authorised to work in Singapore β there is no grace period to keep them on shift while renewal is pending. MOM can also refuse renewal outright where wage or training conditions are not met, which is a separate risk from simply missing the date.
Who this is for
Any employer with Work Permit or S Pass holders on staff.
What youβll hold
- Renewed pass confirmation for each employee
- Updated levy or quota calculation if headcount changed
Watch out for
- Treating wage compliance and pass renewal as unrelated processes β MOM checks Progressive Wage Model compliance as part of renewal, and a pass can be refused renewal if PWM wage tiers are not met (see sg-pwm-wage-check).
- Leaving renewal until close to the expiry date, with no buffer for MOM to query the application.
- Losing track of individual pass dates when several staff were hired at different times, so one lapses unnoticed while others are current.
