Legionella risk assessment review
A formal review of your existing legionella risk assessment and control scheme — usually by the same competent person or contractor who carried out the original assessment — to check it still reflects your water system and that the control scheme is actually being followed.
A formal review of your existing legionella risk assessment and control scheme — usually by the same competent person or contractor who carried out the original assessment — to check it still reflects your water system and that the control scheme is actually being followed.
HSE's Approved Code of Practice L8 expects the risk assessment to be reviewed at least every 2 years, or sooner if anything about the water system, its use, or the building changes. An assessment that is out of date does not meet the duty even if it was correct when written.
Ask your original assessor first — a review is quicker and cheaper if they already know your system.
Who this is for
Every venue with a water system, including simple ones with just a few taps.
What you’ll hold
- Updated legionella risk assessment
- Updated written control scheme
Watch out for
- Treating "review" as a formality and not actually checking whether the flushing regime and temperature log have been kept up.
- Missing the 2-year point because nothing about the venue felt like it had changed — the review is due on a clock, not just on events.
- Not reviewing after a refit or new equipment (ice machines, showers, dishwashers) that changes the water system.
