TheMusicLicence renewal
TheMusicLicence renews every year.
TheMusicLicence renews every year. PPL PRS will invoice you, but the invoice going astray or sitting unpaid in an inbox does not pause the licence requirement — you still need continuous cover for any recorded or broadcast music played on the premises.
Letting cover lapse, even briefly, puts you back in the same position as never having bought it — PPL PRS pursues unlicensed premises for backdated fees on top of the licence itself.
Check your account for the renewal date and confirm continuous cover — do not let it lapse between invoice and payment.
Who this is for
Any venue playing recorded or broadcast music or TV/radio audio that customers or staff can hear.
What you’ll hold
- Renewed TheMusicLicence certificate
Watch out for
- Letting an unpaid renewal invoice sit while music keeps playing — cover has already lapsed by the time anyone notices.
- Assuming a change of business name or ownership carries the licence over automatically. It has to be updated with PPL PRS, not just renewed as before.
- Not updating the licence when capacity or how music is used changes (a new sound system, a DJ night added) — the renewed fee is based on current use, not last year's.
