A grease trap (passive interceptor) or automatic dosing/grease recovery system fitted to your kitchen drainage to stop fats, oils and food solids reaching the sewer.
Sewer blockages from kitchen fat are one of the most common causes of "fatbergs" and local flooding, and your trade effluent consent will typically require adequate grease removal. Without it you risk enforcement, blocked drains and an expensive emergency call-out.
Size it to your kitchen's cooking output, not just the pipe diameter — undersized traps fail within weeks.
Who this is for
Any venue with a full working kitchen.
What you’ll hold
- Grease trap/dosing unit installation certificate
- Servicing schedule
Watch out for
- Installing an undersized trap to save space. It will need emptying so often it becomes unworkable, and grease will still get through.
- No ongoing servicing contract. A grease trap left unemptied stops working and starts smelling within a few weeks of a busy kitchen.
- Fitting it after the kitchen drainage is already boxed in, making the trap hard to access for the regular empties it needs.
