Fire extinguisher servicing
A qualified servicing contractor checks every extinguisher’s condition, weight, pressure and accessibility, and tags each one with the visit date, to the Singapore Standard SS 578.
Not yet independently verified — check the source link: The 12-month servicing frequency for fire extinguishers to SS 578 is assumed by analogy with the UK/BS 5306 standard, not independently confirmed for the Singapore SS 578 standard specifically.
A qualified servicing contractor checks every extinguisher’s condition, weight, pressure and accessibility, and tags each one with the visit date, to the Singapore Standard SS 578. Extinguishers also typically need a more thorough periodic discharge and recharge on a longer cycle — your servicing contractor should flag when that is due.
Extinguishers are one of the first things an SCDF fire safety inspection checks, and an insurer can decline a fire-damage claim if the extinguisher that should have controlled a small fire was out of date, discharged, or missing.

Who this is for
Any venue holding portable fire extinguishers — nearly every commercial kitchen and bar.
What you’ll hold
- Signed service visit record
- Tags on each extinguisher showing the last service date
Watch out for
- Treating the tag on the extinguisher as the only record — if it is removed or fades, you have nothing to show an inspector.
- Extinguishers moved during a refit and never put back on their bracket, so the contractor cannot find or service them all.
- Assuming a fire-rated wall-mount bracket alone satisfies SCDF requirements without a current service record behind it.
