Food Safety Course Level 1 refresher
Refresher training for every food handler’s Food Safety Course (FSC) Level 1 certification — the basic hygiene qualification every food handler needs.
Refresher training for every food handler’s Food Safety Course (FSC) Level 1 certification — the basic hygiene qualification every food handler needs. The pattern is uneven, not a flat interval: the first refresher falls due within 5 years of the original certificate, and each one after that is due every 10 years. Track each handler’s certificate individually — they won’t all be due on the same date unless everyone was trained together.
An expired FSC certificate means that handler is no longer compliant to work with food, and it’s exactly the kind of paperwork gap an SFA inspection checks for handler by handler.
Who this is for
Every food handler in a kitchen — anyone preparing, cooking or handling open food.
What you’ll hold
- FSC Level 1 refresher certificate, per handler, dated
Watch out for
- Tracking one refresher date for the whole team instead of per handler — staff trained at different times have different due dates, and new hires bring their own certificate history.
- Assuming the interval is a flat "every 5 years" — it isn’t. Only the first refresher is due within 5 years; after that it steps out to every 10 years.
- Losing track of a handler’s original certificate date entirely, which makes it impossible to know whether they’re on the 5-year first-refresher clock or the 10-year one.
