Alcohol training register review
A review of your register of staff who have completed Scotland's mandatory alcohol awareness training — checking it covers everyone currently selling or supplying alcohol, and that new starters since the last review have actually completed their training and been added.
Scotland only
A review of your register of staff who have completed Scotland's mandatory alcohol awareness training — checking it covers everyone currently selling or supplying alcohol, and that new starters since the last review have actually completed their training and been added.
A licensing standards officer can ask to see the register at any time. Gaps — a new starter selling alcohol before training, or a leaver never removed — are a training-record failure even if the staff member in question knew perfectly well what they were doing.
Cross-check against your staff list — every person who sells or supplies alcohol needs to be on it, and leavers should come off.
Who this is for
Every licensed premises in Scotland.
What you’ll hold
- Updated alcohol training register
Watch out for
- Reviewing only when a new starter joins and skipping the routine 6-monthly check, so leavers stay on the register and gaps go unnoticed.
- Assuming training done for a previous employer at another venue counts without checking the record actually transfers into your register.
- Keeping the register on paper somewhere that cannot be produced quickly when a licensing standards officer asks for it on the spot.
