Catering gas safety check (CP42)
The annual renewal of your commercial catering gas safety certificate — a Gas Safe registered engineer, qualified in the catering category, re-checks your gas appliances and, where fitted, retests the ventilation interlock, to IGEM/UP/19 ("CP42").
The annual renewal of your commercial catering gas safety certificate — a Gas Safe registered engineer, qualified in the catering category, re-checks your gas appliances and, where fitted, retests the ventilation interlock, to IGEM/UP/19 ("CP42").
The certificate you got before opening only covers you for a year. A leaking appliance or a failed interlock is a genuine fire and carbon monoxide risk, and an expired certificate is also what most insurers and environmental health officers ask to see first.
Confirm they are qualified in the "catering" category, not just domestic gas.
Who this is for
Any venue with gas catering appliances.
What you’ll hold
- CP42 / IGEM UP19 gas safety certificate
- Ventilation interlock test record
Watch out for
- Leaving it until the old certificate has already expired — you are trading without a valid certificate in the gap.
- Booking a domestic-only Gas Safe engineer because they were cheaper. They cannot legally sign off catering appliances.
- Not retesting the interlock because "it worked fine on day one" — extract fans and sensors drift out of calibration over a year.
