Fire alarm call-point test
Trigger one manual call point (break-glass) with the test key, confirm the panel registers it and the sounders operate throughout the building, then reset.
Trigger one manual call point (break-glass) with the test key, confirm the panel registers it and the sounders operate throughout the building, then reset. Use a different call point each week so every one gets tested in rotation.
A call point that does not trigger the panel, or sounders that do not carry to a back kitchen or cellar, is something you want to find on a quiet Tuesday morning — not during a real fire. It is also the first entry a fire officer checks in the logbook.
Sets out the routine testing your fire risk assessment expects.
Who this is for
Every venue with a fire alarm system.
What you’ll hold
- Fire alarm weekly test log (call point used, date, result)
Watch out for
- Testing the same call point every week because it is nearest the panel — rotation exists to prove every device works, not just one.
- Testing outside trading hours so staff never actually hear what the alarm sounds like during a real shift.
- Logging "test passed" without noting which call point was used, so there is no way to prove the whole system has been covered over a year.
